Background

My journey into music began with gospel, like so many others. As a child, I remember my mother rehearsing gospel songs with choir members right in our home. Those melodies formed the foundation of my love for music. Years later, I was captivated by a new sound when I listened to my oldest sister sing while her friend played the bass. That sound, vibrant and diverse, turned out to be jazz.

In my early twenties, I immersed myself in funk and soul, playing with various groups and exploring the genres. Back then, artists like Grover Washington Jr. and Bob James were considered soul musicians. By the 1980s, their music was redefined as smooth jazz, and I was completely hooked. While living overseas, my appreciation for smooth jazz deepened, and it opened doors for me to become a DJ at clubs on military installations.

Upon returning to the United States, I transitioned into a career as a computer technician for a major corporation. For 26 years, I honed my technical skills, but my passion for smooth jazz never wavered. As jazz radio stations across the country began to change, I recognized a growing need to keep the genre alive and accessible. Combining my technical expertise with my love for music, I decided to create an online platform dedicated to smooth jazz.

This vision led to the creation of “The Point Smooth Jazz Internet Radio.” It became the perfect way to share my love for smooth jazz with listeners around the world and ensure this timeless genre continues to thrive.
